What does dental sedation feel like?
Nitrous oxide is administered through a comfortable nose mask. The special blend of nitrogen and oxygen gases can make patients feel light-headed and giddy or just comfortable and relaxed. Dental sedation makes patients less aware of their surroundings and can prevent memories from forming, so the patient remembers very little about their appointment.

Is dental sedation safe?
Dental sedation is safe for most patients to utilize. Before we add dental sedation to your treatment plan, we will review the service(s) you’re receiving, your medical history, and your current health status to determine the best sedation option for you, if any. Nitrous oxide does not render patients unconscious, making it a safer choice than general anesthesia. If you have any specific questions or concerns regarding dental sedation, please feel free to ask our knowledgeable dental team, and we will be happy to assist you.

Can I return to work or school after receiving sedation?
Most patients can return to their daily routines and even drive themselves home after utilizing nitrous oxide. Of course, patients who receive nitrous oxide sedation are always welcome to wait in our office until they feel completely back to normal and ready to get behind the wheel. Some services, like oral surgery, require patients to go straight home post-treatment to rest and recover regardless of the sedation service they choose.
